World music, world travel, and worldly wisdom form the unified whole of the ambitiously bohemian DVD 1 Giant Leap. Creators Duncan Bridgeman and Jamie Catto cast themselves as globetrotting ambassadors of goodwill and good music, and they prove better as musical explorers than as filmmakers. The result is a flowing, loose-knit tapestry of imagery, interviews, and diverse performances. Gathering material from 25 countries and dozens of famous and not-so-famous musicians, authors, celebrities, spiritualists, philosophers, and unique individuals from nearly every cultural background, this enveloping DVD is best enjoyed as a soothing audiovisual odyssey (select "loop mode" for continuous play!). Assembling this cornucopia by theme (Time, Inspiration, Sex, God, Death, etc.), Bridgeman and Catto function as co-composers with an astonishing array of collaborators, giving 1 Giant Leap its richly international (and some might say inter-spiritual) identity. The result is a far-reaching glimpse of our world through the eyes of those who improve it by their musical presence. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Transcending global boundaries   February 1, 2010
Molly Mckee (Austin, TX)
I love this DVD. I love the concept, the interviews and most of all the music. I think that this DVD really shows how beautiful the world can be when we are brought together. The film doesn't have a plot, but instead explores ideas such as Money, Death, Happiness, and Creativity. Each chapter has interviews that are poignant, insightful and full of wisdom, as well as a song that further explores the topic. Personally, I love how each track uses music from all over the world. Duncan Bridgeman and Jamie Catto traveled around the world recording music including African drum beats, Celtic vocals, Indian flutes, Didgeridoos, and much, much more. Each layer was recorded on location and later mixed together to form gems of world music. If you aren't convinced go to Youtube and check out some excerpts.

5 out of 5 stars inspirational and fun   May 15, 2009
Oscar Wilde (NE, USA)
This is a mesmerizing mix of music, mantra and fun. Interviews with some very interesting people (some of whom are truly profound) on issues of spirituality and music are interlaced with very happening world music, and terrific images.

(My only tiny gripe is that some of the images come at you in too frenetic a way. Other than that, incredible job with matching music to images, layering multiple images together in a meaningful way, and putting so much together in a compelling format - amazing).

If you are interested in spiritual questions but are not dogmatically tied to any one religion, and music makes your heart sing, you will probably want to watch this over and over. Delightful.

1 Giant Leap is a DVD that can be listened to while you are working or relaxing. You can watch it or just use it for background. It will make you think about ideas that are outside the box. I listen to it over and over and keep hearing/seeing new things.Great, Great, Great display of world music.

5 out of 5 stars Never stop watching   July 1, 2008
Fabricio A. Pamplona (Brasil)
Very audacious project of the guys. Really nice idea traveling around the world collecting opinions, sounds, images and snapshots from the most distinct kind of cultures.
Apparently, they restricted a little bit by just interviewing people that speaks English. This could have imposed some limitations, but it is overall a "must-see". I watched it many many times and show to every friend to go to my home. Really, is very insightful and entertaining. If it was just the sound, it would be already very nice, therefore, I think the CD can be also another good option. Make sure you don't miss the Extras!
