Product Description Belushi and Aykroyd star as the Blues Brothers who are trying to reunite their rhythm and blues band in order to raise some honest money.
Amazon.com After building up the duo's popularity through popular recordings and several performances on Saturday Night Live, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd--as "legendary" Chicago blues brothers Jake and Elwood Blues--took their act to the big screen in this action-packed hit from 1980. As Jake and Elwood struggle to reunite their old band and save the Chicago orphanage where they were raised, they wreak enough good-natured havoc to attract the entire Cook County police force. The result is a big-budget stunt-fest on a scale rarely attempted before or since, including extended car chases that result in the wanton destruction of shopping malls and more police cars than you can count. Along the way there's plenty of music to punctuate the action, including performances by Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, and James Brown that are guaranteed to knock you out. As played with deadpan wit by Belushi and Aykroyd, the Blues Brothers are "on a mission from God," and that gives them a kind of reckless glee that keeps the movie from losing its comedic appeal. Otherwise this might have been just a bloated marathon of mayhem that quickly wears out its welcome (which is how some critics described this film and its 1998 sequel). Keep an eye out for Steven Spielberg as the city clerk who stamps some crucial paperwork near the end of the film. --Jeff Shannon

Blues Brothers Movie August 27, 2010 T. Hershberger It's been over a month and my movie still hasn't arrived. Not too happy! I do live overseas, but have a military APO address. Other items I've purchased normally arrive within 2 weeks. Not too happy!
Blues Brothers August 1, 2010 dissatisfied 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The product failed to perform. It simply stopped midway through a scene. I now see that it was a two sided disc which would have been nice to know when I purchased it. I returned the product as defective to the manufacturer as instructed and asked that I be credited for product and shipping. I have still not heard a word.
Very dissatisfied with my first Amazon experience.
Beyond CLASSIC... May 10, 2010 G. YEO (Singapore) Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi ARE the Blues Brothers. Watching this again after 20 years or so, I'm amazed that the movie hasn't aged at all - the transfer looks great and the pair seem made to born for the part - in their shades and suits.
Credit has to go to John Landis who was at the peak of his powers for putting together a completely seamless comedy-drama-musical, replete with car chases, somersaulting church congregations, and bazooka wielding women. It sounds ridiculous to describe it, but it comes together completely. According to Wikipedia, this made the film at the time, one of the most expensive movies ever at US $ 30 million.
More than a 'Mission of God' - the Blues Brothers is a historical trip through the blues, as Jake and Ellroy Elwood go in search of their band, they find and live the music. What other film would feature John Lee Hooker, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles credibly in a storyline? Simply remarkable. A film like this today would be impossible to make. They really don't make them like this anymore.
The documentary that's featured isn't tremendously exciting but informative nonetheless.
PS - I think Dan Aykroyd lost something when Belushi died.
great fun April 8, 2010 J. Taite (kernersville NC) we have been watching this film for years in VHS. Great improvement in DVD. great price
Still a Classic March 10, 2010 R. St. Amour (Nashville.Tn USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The story line, the music and the age old musicians plus the comedy styles of Belushi and Aykroyd make this a timeless movie. One that can be enjoyed by many a generation for years and years to come. The 25th anniversary edition includes 2 versions of the film. Twice the enjoyment factor plus the expanded version is great against the original theatrical version.
